due to my son being sick and unable to fly. We had arrived at the airport on the night of departure but my son started vomiting at check-in. They called the supervisor who then called someone else who took us all over the airport to see the Doctor. After they checked my son over we were told he could not fly that night.
The next available flight was two nights later which meant we would over stay our 30 day visa by one day.
I mentioned this to the supervisor who said it was ok we would just have to pay $10US each.
When we got to immigration the officer pointed out we had overstayed, I started to explain when he told me to wait where I was. He left and then came back with another official who was very scary he took me and my son into a room with about 20 immigration officials all staring at us. I was told to sit down and wait. Then another official came over and lead me to a chair he pointed to a sign on the wall that said if you overstay visa it was $20US per person. I explained all about my son being sick and not being able to fly and that I had been told it would be only $10US each. He kept saying no no it $20US I then showed him my wallet and told him all I had left was 180000rp, he then said ok you seem like nice lady I do you a favour. He took the money and sent us on our way.
Even though I knew I would be pulled aside I still found the whole thing daunting and intimidating.
You could try to bargain say you only have $10US per person and hope you get a nice guy or just give them the $20US each and save the hassle.
