Why are you prepared to break the law in order to save a maximum of $120 AUD ? If you applied for the 60 tourist visa as suggested, $120 is the maximum difference between paying the VOA and risking god knows what?
I am sorry, but you are actually risking penalties far greater than the inconvenience of paying out a little extra money, like being deported and not being allowed to re-enter Indonesia.
Chances are you will get away with it, slip a little extra cash or pay the going rate of $20 US per person per day. One day as corrupt as our friends north of us are, they will crack down on the practice. Hope it isn't on the day you travel.
People ask the oddest questions on this site. Should I bother with vaccinations, or travel insurance, riding motorbikes with little or no experience. Does everyone leave their brains at home when they travel to Bali. Many seem to travel on the tightest of budgets and are willing to risk much in order to gain very little if the outcome is wrong.
Here is my best advice. In the first instance contact your travel agent if you are using one and be advised by a professional or as someone else suggested the Indonesian consulate in your state.
The following is a direct quote from the visa regulation info on this site.
The VoA cannot be extended or converted into any other kind of visa. Also be aware that Immigration officials calculate the 30-day period as follows: your arrival day is counted as your first day, and you must leave the country on the 30th. day!
Good luck with your decision.
