JBR Pt 2

After unpacking and changing we decided to call our Balienese friend Kelik. He did not know that we were in Bali and he was so happy to hear us. He then asked where we were and when
I said in Kuta he was rapt. We made arrangements to meet him for dinner at La Monde. It was great to see him again and we also got to meet his girlfriend Ketut. Kelik is the singer in the Yellow Band. We made arrangements to go to his parents village on the Monday. We wanted to get his parents a useful gift but did not know what to buy. I had been going to make curtains but it was too hard to work out the size of the windows just from a photograph. We stopped on the way up to the village and bought rice, noodles, eggs and some vegs. Kelik had not told his parent's that we were coming so they were not home when we arrived. Kelik had to go looking for them. They were really pleased to see us again. His Mum was really happy to see the food. We sat around with Kelik translating everything for us all.
I asked him to find out if there was something in particular that his Mum would like or need. He said that the food was enough. I had a walk in the garden and looked at the pigs and asked if they were the same ones that they had last year. Kelik said no that they had been sold and these ones were just being fattened up ready to sell. That was when I had this idea!! I asked Kelik how about if we bough his parents a pig! He said no way they are too expensive. I asked how much and he said for a male about 300,000Rp. His parents already had 2 males so I said why didn't they have a female and he said because females were much much more expensive. So again I asked just how much and he said 500,000Rp. I took one look to Doug and said that we would like to buy a female pig!! Kelik said no way it was too much but we insisted and asked him to tell his Mum that, that was what we would like to give them. She was just so happy it really made us feel so good to be able to help them. By having a female it can be mated and then they can sell the babies and make some money that will be ongoing. I asked if I could go with his Mum to buy the pig but Kelik said it would take about 3 hours. I asked if we could go by car but the only way was to go down this tiny little pathway that went through the jungle down to the pig farm. So we left the money with his Mum and made arrangements to go back the following week to see them again and to see the new pig.

Pt 3 still to come
