...just seemed like a good spot to jump in with my 3 cents worth. We all take it for granted that customs between cultures will be quite different, and still some things are unexpected. In most of the world, eating together seems to be the natural thing to do. I can't recall how many times I was invited to dinner at the homes of friends or contacts in Bali and wound up either eating alone or with 1 family member sitting across from me constantly refilling my plate. It takes some getting used to. I didn't mean to imply that you treat your driver/friend rudely.
