it is by far a better solution to bring your own computer, but i am not so sure the coverage of (roaming telstra) GSM phone in tuban area where you will be staying. like you have said most carriers block ports used for internet banking, but some banks are using different gateway so check with your bank regarding this issue.

you may find you will be always within a hotspot coverage (although most are really slow), so make sure your computer has 802.11 equipped and your antivirus is up to date. i strongly recommend using a private firewall for your computer too - then when you are connected to the internet with any local backbone you will be protected. once you understand a little of internet security and take measures to protect yourself, you will be able to use the internet and work anywhere in the world.
