I guess it depends just how far you take things. I scour the net for information, I also seek out books, dvd's, videos... anything I can get my hands on. But for me it's partly getting a "Bali fix" until I can get there in person.

I don't ever plan things to the point of knowing which exact room I'll request - I leave that to chance. I don't plan out which restaurants I'll eat at or what days I'll do which activities etc. I will admit I tend to eat at the same place on my first night each trip, but that's become a bit of a ritual over the years and it doesn't extend past that first meal.

Aside from that I just have an idea of all the places to visit and things to see that I need to fit in among my time spent relaxing, shopping, getting massages, etc.
