Now feeling the results of battle wounds from a rugby career gone by, I now have bad knees and am putting off reconstructions for as long as possible.
Tiger Balms, Deep Heat, Dencorubs, Ice and Hot Packs, Gloucosamine, Shark Cartlige, Chinese Herbs, Tonics, powdered Foreskin of the White African Rhino, you name it I have tried it (only kidding about the Rhino) but nothing worked.
While in Bali last June someone recommended Silver Clove Balm. It comes in a shoe polish size tin and looks like vaseline but the texture of shoe polish and naturally smells like cloves. Just rub in like any liniment but instead of being hot it actually feels cold like a mentholated cream.
After 10-15 minutes it actually numbs the area (I guess just like oil of cloves does for a tooth ache). All I know is that after a big day on my feet (and don't you just get them in Bali after the a Kuta shopfest) I could not get to sleep at night with throbbing knee joints. Not with the Silver Cloves, rub it in and 10 mins later no pain and off to sleep. Highly recommended.
I bought 20 tins at Hardys Supermarket in Sanur for 15,000Rp a tin in June last year before I came home, and will top up again this June. Sure beats paying $20 a tin back home: see link below
