I haven't taken malaria tablets since my first trip in 94. The side effect are horrible and malaria isn't a huge issue on Bali. Dengue fever is a much greater risk and there are no tablets you can take to protect yourself against that. The best prevention all round is to buy a good tropical strength insect repellent and make sure you wear it day and night. Bushmans make one with sunscreen in it as well, so you're doing two jobs in one with that product.
