If you do not have a licence in your country of residence you are NOT covered with your travel insurance. Last time I went I got an illegal international licence. If I had an accident I would have possibly been up for up to 25,000.00 AUD$ to be medivaced out.
Mind you, my son road last time in Bali and was pulled up on many occasions he did not pay the fine once. He had everything in order (even fake international licence) and all paperwork that you have to carry, he told them to take him the police station and guess what they never did. Once cop even shouted him a beer and ciggie while having a conversation.
