have taken locals several times but think always paid the same as us at the front - once paid for ticket from booth up the road offering gauranteed cheaper discounted entry - but it turned out to be more expensive than the entry fee at park (yes I did go back and demand my money back)
usually took locals on deal that they helped look after my daughter in return for me paying their entrance fee (after making sure they could swim)- great experience for me and daughter interacting in social activity with some real locals and I think the locals really enjoyed it because its not something they could afford to do often
best time was when we took a lovely waitress from Suly Hotel in Ubud as a thankyou for being so nice to us during our stay - on her one day off - we also had to buy her swimmers - but it was well worth it as daughter was well looked after and really enjoyed the company of such a freindly warm local, so we almost felt like locals rather than just another tourist for a change!
