Recommend you don't use phenergan if you have had no experience with it for that particular child. I have two children and phenergan was o.k. for one child but send the other into about 24 hours of hyperactivity. Even though this was many years ago, I still shudder when recalling the event.
My 11 year old daughter does not sleep easily on planes but I make sure she changes into comfortable clothes that she can curl up in - (no tight waistbands etc). She also uses an eye mask to block out light and other distractions. When we get home it is straight to bed - no unpacking.
