We went to Lord Howe Island a few years ago and the luggage allowance there is 14 kilos....no problems as there's no shopping to be done on the island!!
The day we were leaving was quite windy and apparently they were close to maximum weight so each passenger was asked to step on the scales and a note was made of their weight and they added it all up. If they were over someone would have been asked to wait for the next flight!!!
At least they were discreet and faced the scales away from others!!
It was nice to know that they were concerned with the safety of everyone.
