I think that's a good idea. I also have a 12yo daughter & I can't imagine giving her phenergen. She would be asking me what it is, why do I have to have it etc. She & I flew home from Bali July before last (too long ago!!) & our flight was delayed until very late at night, and she was fine. Yes, we were both very tired, but it was still a bit of an adventure, and 12yo's rarely have tantrums in public!! It would have been much worse if she was in an induced drowsy state.
Of course, I dont' know your daughter Tubes, but from my experience, 12 year olds are quite able to cope in these situations.
You could plan a loooooong day at Waterbom before you leave!
