With all this fuss about 'keep it green' please spare a thought for us at BCAS.
Concrete structures have feelings too!
There are some remarkable examples of modern day architecture in and around Bali. Forget about the Pryamids of Giza,The leaning Tower of Pisa, The Empire State Building, when we have the DFS Roundabout masterpeice of 'Baby with something stuck up it's Bottom' and Denpasar's 'Coca Cola Clock'which hints at the great Salvador Dali himself. Although the four clocks do not read the same time, they are probably right for somewhere in the world. For more on the four clocks theory read 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'.
Then we have the mighty 'I'm getting out of my Chariot' statue at the Airport. a slight mistake in the design has led to some cowboy constructors adding pneumatic rubber tyres to the masterpiece when everyone knows that rubber wasn't even invented in the old days!!!!
In another tragic twist of fate, the construction of a Mcdonald's sign on Kuta Beach. When driving towards it, a wonderful statue of a soldier with his hand's raised in triumph looks as if he is holding up the McDonald's sign. this is very Zen indeed and I think was done on purpose to test us.
We are very eagerly awaiting the construction of the giant Garuda Wisnu, which will make the Statue of Liberty a mere sand grain in concrete circles and of course will incorporate millions of tons of wonderful fresh concrete and will cost millions of taxpayers dollars (a worthy investment indeed!)
Our ongoing 'Lets sidewalk all of Bali' Campaign has been a tremendous success, we are even developing Turtle island so we can side walk that too!
And what to do if we have an excess of concrete blocks? we build really high concrete walls in the middle of the by pass and fill it up with earth and palm trees. Brilliant!
There have been complaints of open drains on the sidewalks, these are of course to show tourists not only how clean we keep our drainage system, but also to show off the intricate detail of the cemented stone walls of the drains.
The pitch variations as we like to call them (the up and downs) along the sidewalk have been scientifically calculated as not to give short people inferiority complexes, an idea that is now being considered in the West (the home of equality)
We have been rigerously saving lollies given as change and have opened a lolly savings account at BCA for the sole purpose of preserving these wonderful concrete structures around Bali.
Finally on a different note, memberships are open once again for the Bali Trainspotter's Club (BTC)now in its third successful year. Although Members have remained very enthusiastic, trains in Bali have once again been very thin on the ground this year, in a nutshell we have seen bugger all!
But hang on, there was a sighting recently outside Paradiso Bowling center, there's an old yellow steam train, how it got there and why it is there remains a mystery??? I kid you not, go look the next time your around that area.
Needless to say there was an unconfirmed sighting of a 1973 Class 2 Sulzer Diesel, but after a more thourough examination turned out to be a large Mercedes Bus from Medan with a broken exhaust!
Keep on spotting!
