The guys at Mr Dolphin - Kuta told us it was OK to swim in the hotel pools but not to swim on the ocean, if you do want to swim just smother the tat with Bepanthan Cream to protect it.
Never had any problems doing that.
If you are worried about getting it wet, just dangle your feet & sip on a binny.
