We went with our son 18 months ago with our almost 2 yo son. We stayed at Bali Gardens which is great location but we found the room & linen etc pretty gross & not that impressed by the food (although many other forumites really love this hotel).
We had a tour of Febris rooms & I would say that it is by far the best hotel in it's price range, the rooms are superb & super clean & the restaurant is awesome as well as their massage spa. The rooms are huge & the bathrooms are great. Febris is located in Tuban south of Kuta & Legian & is much better suited to families than the busy nightclub strip. The footpaths are much wider. Febris is close to the Beach markets (great for bargain shopping), shopping centres & the beach etc.
We spent $1600 over 10 days & that included loads of tours, all meals, bar tab, loads & loads of shopping etc.
Places I would definately see Kintamani, Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, Mt Batur & Lake Batur (& Besakih Temple), Elephant Cave,
The most AWESOME place I've ever been to in Bali is Gunung Kawi Royal Monuments which are carved into rock walls & there is a temple & spring there as well. Ubud markets for shopping. Definately go & see a Balinese dance.
Once you find yourself a driver they will be able to make suggestions about where to go & sightsee as they know the best places to go.
