at the moment the rupiah is around 7000rp to 1 aust dollar, not sure about your dollar.
Next to Hard Rock hotel is poppies lane 1 and it is full of great little cheap places to eat.
Kubuku, Bali Asi, Bamboo corner, Fat Yogis, secret garden etc etc. Good markets there also.
Don't drink the water in Bali...just drink bottled water.
When bartering for goods, expect to pay half of what they ask.
Keep your money locked in the safety deposit boxes in the hotels reception and cash just each days amount, that way it will last you the trip and if you loose your money it's only a days worth.
Keep your eyes on the zeros in the money, can be confusing.
Take acidopholus tablets to keep your tummies healthy and avoid Buffets where food is not fresh and piping hot.
