The massage ladies are still along the beachfront - although they are not allowed to step over the boundary. There are a group of about 6-8 of them (a couple of the guys sell watches and crossbows etc). A couple we ran into had their daughters hair plaited and extensions by them. They charged a ridiculously low amount of money for it - something like 150,000 rp - and she had about 4 of them working on her for 3 hours! They are not pushy at all - they were really pleasant and if you indicated you werent interested they left you alone. Anyway in short - yes they are still there.
As for the beach works - we didnt find it a problem and the bar staff always heard our orders!!!
