Just in case you are not aware, you can also buy real eggs painted - Ostrich, Duck etc. A Painted Ostrich Egg costs about 700,000 rph and $30aud for fumigation back in Australia (done straight away at customs)and you get them from the same village you refer to (I can't remember the name either)
More expensive than the wooden ones but given they are real it makes them all that more special

I collect them from all countries I visit if I can, I have eggs from Sth Africa, China and Bali (could not find any in Brazil)
