I have a male friend who just came back from working in the maldives, he's indonesian, he said Indonesian's there are actually few and far between.. he didnt work in the resorts, he is with UNICEF and created a program to educate the people there about avoiding drugs and AIDS... he did mention there was a few indonesian girls who were "easy" there but he didnt actually mention that they were sex workers..
He said the only good places in the maldives are actually the resorts, outside of the resorts such as the town ..is really run down, no nightlife nothing, he said its behind Indonesia... and very small (nowhere to get it away from it all, except the expensive resorts) and every day living is expensive.. as they ship in the food from sri lanka, because there's no room to grow anything !!
There was even a show about this on national geographic on rebuilding the place after the tsunami :)
In my own opinion, it sounds a bit dodgy..
