Why is it a joke?? If there is no shortage of tradespeople for any trade why should we let just anyone come into our country for a "good-cushy-well paid job", use your own description, to the detriment of our own workforce? can you do this in any other country? no I didnt think so, so why expect it to happen here.You wouldnt just happen to have "someone" you want to come live here would you?.
