I have previously taken out insurance over the internet with Neville Ward Direct.
The policy,Toursafe, is backed by AIG. I believe that it is one of the biggest insurance companies in the world.

Have claimed twice, once when Ansett went belly up, the second last year when I lost a pair of glasses.
Both times no problems, claims paid very quickly, both within 10 working days of lodgement.
When checking out insurance don't just look at the price check out what excess is payable, exclusions, claim limits etc.
