I'd imagine it would apply to all other Australian airports. Cheers Geri

Security arrangements following UK/US security alert
Melbourne Airport wishes to provide clarification of some conflicting information related to what can and
cannot be carried on board flights operating from Melbourne Airport.

There remains no restrictions on hand luggage for flights to the United Kingdom or to any other
destination excluding the United States. Passengers can continue to carry liquids, including hand creams,
soft drinks and duty-free alcohol as normal on these flights.

The only restrictions that apply are for two daily US-bound flights from Melbourne:
- Qantas Airways flight 093 (MEL-LAX), scheduled for daily departure at 1025hrs.
- United Airlines flight 840 (MEL-SYD-LAX), scheduled for daily departure at 1115hrs.

For these flights, passengers are still able to carry hand luggage on board, including MP3 players, books,
laptops, prescription medicines and baby milk/formula.

Passengers on these two daily flights cannot carry in their hand luggage the following items: aerosols,
soft drinks, contact lense solution, hand creams, hair gel, toothpaste, moisturisers and other cosmetics,
bottled water and other drinks. However, these items can still be packed into checked-in luggage.

From today, arrangements have now commenced allowing passengers on these two flights to purchase
duty free products such as perfumes, alcohol and cosmetics, which will be delivered directly to the
boarding gate of their aircraft.

Passengers on two other United States-bound flights operating from Melbourne Airport each day - QF025
(MEL-AKL-LAX) and NZ006 (MEL-AKL-LAX) - are no longer subject to additional security screening
procedures at Melbourne Airport. However these passengers will be required to go through a security
search in Auckland, and are therefore advised to pack any prohibited on-board items into their checked-in
luggage upon departure in Melbourne.

Additionally, passengers who are travelling to the United Kingdom with connections to further European or
Atlantic ports may be given the option by their airline to pack restricted items, which will assist with security
procedures when they arrive for transit at UK airports.

The restrictions related to US-bound flights have been set by the US Government Department of
Homeland Security as directives to airlines that operate into the United States. Melbourne Airport is
assisting the airlines to implement these directives. This information will be updated should changes occur.
