I feel that the tourism marketing is fine.
I think politics is causing concern. I do not mean travel warnings, I mean politics, sadly Indonesian politics do not restore faith in travel for the newbie to overseas travel.
I think in Australia the media have a lot to answer for in shaking the confidence of would be Bali tourists.
Those of us who are Baliholics will always go, I have a very hard time these days convincing anyone to go to Bali for the first time, they are afraid.
Fears are very real and of grave concern, it is real for all travel destinations but Bali has a sad record unfortunately.
Travel warnings need to be in place especially as since 9/11 excellent intelligence is evident for world affairs. We need to heed warnings and excercise vigilance for all destinations.
All these issues and more local ones of corruption need to be addressed to encourage a new wave of tourists from wealthy destinations.
I don't think this is what you wanted to hear but beaches, sun and beautiful people are not enough.
