I agree that the guys trying to gave out scratchies are a huge pain - just say Saya sudah punya timeshare (I already have a timeshare) & they'll stop hassling.
I answered a questionnaire last September in Kuta, got a call, we had some spare time so went to the 90 min presentation at The Peninsula at Tanjung Benoa. Didn't buy (and didn't bother with the free lunch) but we got 2 free weeks in Bali or Thailand. Used one free week in April at Bali Shangrila Beach Club in Candi Dasa & loved it - delightful boutique hotel run by an English family right on the beach. No hassling whatsoever and totally free.
Just back from using our second free week, this time at Jimbaran Hills Resort &, altho it's in the middle of nowhere, it too is a delightful place & hubby was thrilled to be staying a short drive from Ulus & other surfing spots on the Bukit. It was a good base for day/half-day trips & such a joy not having to listen to hubby moaning about Kuta/Legian traffic. We had to have a chat with a salesman there which lasted about 10 mins - no pressure whatsoever. I think the price mentioned was US$4K for 20 years unlimited use for $50 per week. Here we paid a service fee of US$5 per day, happily.
I am very glad we went to the initial presentation - because my husband spends long periods in Indonesia surfing, we stay el cheapo. As Holladaze says, it's people who have never used timeshare who are down on it. We have met many timeshare owners like her who travel the world staying in good places cheaply. It's not for everyone, certainly not for us, yet there are a lot of happy timeshare owners out there.
