my husband is 48 he goes alright for an old fart reckons he had some of the best surf in years and thats saying something
he found plenty of waves @ kuta reef just wander out on to the beach the guys in the boats will take you out cost around 30,000 rph drop off and pick up depends on the boat guy they are hard to crunch sometimes
ulu is also one of his favs but the last time he went out (2 weeks ago) there were 65-70 guys out it was madness
got middles uncrowded most of the time think you have to get out early to get the best waves bfore the brazil nuts turn up
the beach @ legian /kuta had some nice waves but also very busy seemed to be alot of japanese and learners
as you say it all depends on the swell/tide and another factor is how many bintangs you had the night before
either way its just nice to get out there your sure to get some good surf
