Few days between JBRs as it's hard to beat my son on the computer at night. Plus, it's hard to relive the memories as I start missing Bali - you know what I mean. But... onwards.
I wake feeling good, just sore. Can't believe a few hours sun can do that much. I should know better but guess I haven't had a bikini on for 12 months so bits have seen the sun that haven't for a while. No beach for me today. Go for some breakfast. The couple from near home are hiring a car and heading west up the Coast. Would like to do that next time. Have a few nights in Kuta, Legian, then head up to Medawi and Lovina. Maybe back to Kuta then Candi Dasa and Ubud and finish off with a few nights luxury at Kartika Plaza. Haven't stayed there yet.
When you arrive after a few years you just imagine you'll never fit everything in but after a few days you're on Bali time. I've enjoyed lots of sleep and no stress but have done a lot with my days. Have worked out if I have brekky and wait for the toilet call I'm fine! Would hate to be out walking and feel the need to go - and nowhere to go. I take a Berocca each morning and touch wood, have felt good aside from sunstroke.
Walk to Supernova and buy some more Martha Tillar cleanser for Rp32,000 and day moisturiser - it is a different one for "old" skin. Rp94,500. Get a few little things from the supermarket part. Got my 12 y.o. son a 'cassette' shape belt buckle for Rp25,000. Always handy do do a bit of fixed price shopping.
Walk down Jl Bakung Sari past a place where a friend stays every trip that has been there for years and then go wrong way towards beach and after walking down dusty streets away from civilisation decide to backtrack. Its bloody hot! Find the right lane and end up down Kuta Square. Decide to go to the 'white elephant' I hated, Centro, to have a better look around and enjoy the aircond. I buy some Converse thongs for son Rp59,000, an O'Neill t-shirt for him 50% off Rp49,500, Ocean Pacific t-shirt for me Rp64,500 (size XL goes no where near my 36" I find out afterwards). Need to change money. It is 6700 there - convenient though. Have been getting 6800-6900 elsewhere. The potential ripoffs always say 7099. Find some pants for myself for around home - Rp49,900 each.
There are so many shoes and bags - too many - just can't concentrate. I finally see some shoes I like "Nico Boco". They are 50% off at Rp189,000. They are black and silver small high heel. Love them. Might go back and get another pair - they also have pink and orange. (Damn!! Forgot to do this and wish I had as I'm now wearing the ones I bought out.)
While I'm there my partner calls. Seems bizarre that I'm overlooking an absolutely gorgeous beach in Bali from this weird huge shopping centre and he is calling me from the Gold Coast. Miss him and would have loved to have shared this trip with him - maybe next time!
Had called into Stadium for a watermelon juice and now walk towards home. Call into Aquarius restaurant and have seafood sate for lunch. Very nice and cheap. Love sitting at the front tables and watching everything. Call in for a foot massage at Honey's. Would love to have a full body massage but don't think sunburn would make it too enjoyable. Once again massage is great finished off with back, shoulders, arms and neck (tell them to go easy but think by the bright pink glow I'm throwing out they know to).
Call across road for a long island tea and a chat to Eddie about politics and tragedies affecting Bali. Come home for a rest (isn't that a laugh!) and shower before going to the beach for sunset. Find a different lane to go down towards the beach and while wandering down here remember it is the one Mum and I used to walk down when we stayed at Mustapa Gardens years ago. Great bar on the beach road cnr.
There are lots of people around to watch the sunset but sadly too much cloud. Still, the end of the day on Kuta Beach is fun for heaps of people - Balinese and tourists alike. Go towards Hard Rock and walk back towards home. Made's Warung is closed for a celebration a sign says. First time I've ever seen it closed.
Buy my son some Volcom boardshorts for Rp25,000. Have dinner at Simpang Inn. A guy is setting up to play guitar and sing at 7.30pm. He's good. Japanese guy having dinner joins him to sing "Killing Me Softly". He's not so good! But good on him for having a go - I wouldn't.
Enough for this day. Home to read for a while. Even watch Indo reality TV show. I think it is bailing some poor Ibu out of debt. They pay her bills and take her shopping for necessities. I even cry watching Indo reality TV and I only understand 1 in 10 words! But I love the commercials with the just barely Asian looking people. The drama TV like Days of our Lives. Watched Shanghai Nights. Should buy the DVD if I see it. My bags will be over the limit. I worry about buying for others but love doing it. I'm feel I'm carrying too much weight to worry about buying for myself too much. At least the feet stay the same size!
Will get to the next few days probably in one go. Got slack writing. In Bali mode. At first writing was my cure for lack of email/contact but reading back over this I'm glad I did.
