for years. My thai girlfriends explained to me when we were going, not many tourists go there and it is mainly occupied by the malays which in turn are fighting with the Thais.
Unless it takes a turn and travels up into phuket then i suspect it is the normal but progressing.
I don't go to Phuket anyway i prefer Pattaya so thats an option.
