The Puri is marketed as a 3.5 star hotel, to my mind it is more than that. Bear in mind that it is a family owned and run hotel so is much more personal, it is not large only about 90 rooms. We always stay in the Beach Wing rooms but you could have a look at the Bungalows. Yes, the pools have shallow 'splashing areas'. The grounds are not huge but beautifully kept with a small army of gardners pruning, sweeping and spraying every day. There were about 3 or 4 families with young children when we were there but generally it is a hotel that caters to couples. Have you looked at the Hyatt in Sanur? It is not my most favourite place but has magnificent gardens and a kids club.
