1). Is there an ogoh-ogoh procession in Sanur? I understand the largest one's are in Denpasar and Bemo Corner in Kuta. I would be concerned about getting transport back to Sanur, where we are staying on Nyepi eve. Or ...is there usually a taxi around? Would a 4yr old appreciate this parade? What time do they usually begin?
After dark. Last year at Bemo Corner, started about about 8pm. The ogah-ogah could be seen in the street all lined up earlier.
Would a 4 yo appreciate it, hmm, well its dark, lots of yelling, but big models/ogah-ogahs, streets are crowded.
Taxis were very limited around bemo corner, as the streets are blocked off, so no taxis could get thru.
We watched at Sanur 2005 and it also started later.
2). For the day of Nyepi we plan to have stocked snacks, water, dvd's, etc. Are we asked to stay in our room or is using the pool/gardens of the hotel allowed? Staff is expected to be at a minimum so they may enjoy the celebration. Will most hotels have the kithens closed?
Dont have to stay in your room, just within the boundaries of the Hotel. Cant go into the streets at all. Pool is fine and restaurant at the hotel. Kitchens provide usually a fixed menu for Nyepi.
3). We hope to catch a boat the next morning, March 20th, to Lembongan. Is this reasonable? Will boat transport be running and will Lembongan be on "holiday!" -so close to Nyepi?
From 6am the motor bikes return to the streets and Bali gets back to normal slowly. People have to return from their villages to resume work. Boat should be fine.
I am looking forward to being in Bali during this special time. Can't wait!!! I'm using BTF everyday. Thanks so much.
There is a wonderful market down along the beachfront at Kuta, well worth a visit.
