I think I know where your friend is talking about, it is the one side of the river mouth and there is a small shed where they do sell food. If you are going to Baliaan don't turn down the bitumen road with the gates, keep going and you will see a sign for Baliaan surf bungalows. Turn left here, just before a few shops and drive down through the village, an old lady and man come and lift a gate and you pay them 2,000rp, then continue down the road. Just before the beach there is a warung on the cliff (the only one. Your stuff would be safe there. Or better still stay the night at Baliaan surf bungalows, cheap and great spot, views of the waves from bed in the mornings.
