all the ones i have seen are black dye (not henna) although it is claimed as henna. there are web sites showing the terrible after effects for some people and the health warnings for long term kidney and liver damage even more frightening. Makes me quiver when i see tourist children covered in them. I had one done a few years back before I knew better..... never again
