weight.
Use plastic zip lock bags for toiletries, leaky type things, hair elastics, medical/first aid, jewellery and anything else that is small and can get lost in case.
Use elastic bands or masking tape to roll up clothes to take over, get them ironed when you get there, gottta wash and iron on return home anyway, can fit more in if rolled up.
Don't take anything that you can buy there.
Take half empty shampoo/conditioner bottles if you have to take or leave what's left over there with your friends or room person...some places you will have to give them a note to say that they can have what you have given them.
If buying larger items that don't weigh much, wrap them in paper and string and take as carry-on luggage...but ask if you can put them through to the hold, easier for you and most times they say yes and then they don't get weighed with your luggage going through.
Take older clothes that you can leave there, if in good condition donate them.
Take minimum shoes, thongs for pool, comfy walking type for shopping and maybe sneakers if doing extreme sports. Or buy there.
Always take someone with you that doesn't shop much or offer to take kids! You then get their luggage allowance!
Other tips have been posted and maybe someone will add, have a look through the search, you may come up with some more.
