Tiki exists in several Polynesian languages as the carved figure of a man, and in Maori mythology, the was the first man was called Tiki.
However in common usage it refers to a beautiful stylized pendant worn around the neck made of greenstone from the South Island of NZ. ( The correct name is Heitiki but the Hei has been dropped)
Put "tiki" in a search engine and have a look - they are stunning.
In the 70's and 80's Air NZ used to give green plastic Tikis to all passangers but this was discontinued.
A cheap bus-tour company in Europe started by Kiwi's was Tiki Tours where a lot of Aussies ended up touring or working too.
There was a TV series in the 6o's called " Tales of the South Pacific" in which the American star of the series had a yacht called " Tiki". Bet the Tiki Lounge is some Yank idea of the South Pacific.
