To get an Indonesian car driving licence it is necessary to have a visa allowing residence in Indonesia. The process of getting a car licence is tedious unless well connected and will cost an expatriate about Rp300.000+ - AU$45 - and can fill a day of your time. You need to attend different sections of the Police Licencing offices and be photographed and fingerprinted after all other documentation is complete. Much better to get an International Licence and carry whenever driving.
