I was in at least one area earlier this year where people have died from bird flu and I ate chicken. Does that make me stupid? Probably. Apparently bird flu can only be contracted by eating if the chicken/duck you are consuming is not cooked properly.
I think they key here is that out of a country of 220,000,000 people, only about 100 have died and there are chickens running around in every village you visit. It really is suprising that it hasn't been much worse.
I just wouldn't worry about bird flu at this time unless you plan to be employed as a chicken catcher or something like that.
