i got today with our request for excess(it is okay i asked for permission to share this with you all)
Bad news I'm afraid, Australian Airlines don't have their own sales set-up
now because they are stopping their services to Bali later in the year and
Qantas is doing all the sales queries. I phoned Industry Sales who state
categorically that since late 2005 no excess luggage is allowed free of
charge for humanitarian purposes and this has been verified by a directive
on 19th May telling the sales office that if they authorise any excess
luggage it will come out of their budget! Apparently there is still a "small
discretionary" ability for the check-in people to allow an extra 5 kgs. per
person free but it is totally dependent on the loads on the day and is in no
way guaranteed and I can't get that in writing. So it really doesn't look
good for taking excess free of charge, otherwise the charge is $18 per kg.
Very sad, particularly now when things seem to be getting worse, not better.
Re excess baggage, it's a universal thing about airlines cracking down on free excess.
