I never use a credit card because 1. I can't stand paying things off and 2. Someone, somehow, somewhere is waiting to get their grubby paws on my account number. Be sure of that!

CASHPASSPORT - Load with funds. Use at any ATM displaying Visa for cash withdrawals. With internet banking, transfer from your bank accout. When overseas, funds are available 2-3 days later. Withdrawals cost less than using your key card. You also get 2 cards, both with different numbers so if one is lost/stolen you still have another to use.

(When I lost my key card, I went to a cafe and transferred my money onto the cashpassport. It was a good backup).

CASH - Enough to pay for a taxi and tip the porter. Then I head to an ATM.

BANK KEY CARD - High withdrawal fees but still use it if I have to.

ATM machines - Some can be empty! Nearly missing a boat because 3! repeat 3! atms had no cash in them.
