Restaurants:
I must say that the quality of the meals we had in Bali this trip
was the best we have ever had. Perhaps this was due to eating
at what in the past we termed expensive' restaurants and/or perhaps
it was just that Bali is certainly moving ahead in leaps and bounds
in the standard and variety that it offers in a whole range of goods and services. We noted that many of our previous favourites were empty,
they were mainly frequented by Aussies and now due to the downturn
are not getting the business.
Zanzibar Beach Front Restaurant

Turn right as you come out of the beachfront entrance of Kumala Pantai.
This restaurant is packed most nights, seating extends from the street (overlooking the beach), back into a covered area. Food is delicious with very reasonable size serves that are well presented on huge white plates. Average meal prices
Range from 35,000 upward, I had fish and chips for 39,000. Lovely deserts at around 25,000.
TJ's California - Mexican Bar & Restaurant
Poppies Lane 1 Kuta

Great setting with seating either at table or on lounges, one could even class it an intimate setting. Meals and drinks were dearer than some
with the average meal being around the 50,000 mark. Beautifully presented and delicious. Service was excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our night here lying back against the cushions, lil lamps provided, and food brought out on a tray you could have on your lap.
Daddy's Café
Kartika Plaza Street
Opposite Bali Dynasty Hotel
0361 762037
Had breakfast here when staying at the Dynasty and would not return. In fairness to them, we did not eat any other meals there and perhaps it was
just an off day for them. Staff however were friendly and attentive. We much preferred the breakfasts at the Green Garden (turn left out of the
Dynasty entrance and it is a few doors down), it was also cheaper than Daddy's.

Excellent breakfast where we were offered potatoes and baked beans as
part of the American breakfast. Friendly and attentive staff.
Warung Asia
Jl Arjuna / Double Six No 23 Legian

Great for Thai meals, tucked away in the lane way that goes from the
rear of the Kumala Pantai through to Double Six, just look to the right
just before Double Six and you will see the sign then it is just down a lane on the right. There is another one called Warung Eurasia that is
situated outside Kumala Pantai as you first turn left it is on the right
and friends have eaten there and enjoyed the food. Meals at Warung Asia are around 30,000 with a wide variety of excellent Thai curries plus
other dishes. Drinks are very cheap and they have nice cheap good coffee.
Yutz
Jl Werkudara
Rum Jungle Rd (Padma St end)
Best steak in Bali at 54,000. Also, try their smoked chicken with fresh
mushroom sauce. Main meals include a choice of side dishes, I would
suggest the Rosti Potatoes (yumm). Drink prices are mid range. Service is excellent. One of the best restaurants we ate at in Bali. Apparently, their breakfast is excellent.
Flying Piano

Great fun night was had by all at this restaurant, which is just before Yutz
on the left of Rum Jungle Rd. There was a band playing who were very entertaining and went from table to table asking for requests. Food was
excellent with meals averaging 35,000 up and drink prices were very reasonable.
Old Foo Kin Pub
Jl Werkudara
Rum Jungle Rd (on right, Padma St end)
Not a bad place for a drink, meals are good with the pies and burgers being a hit with the kids. Service was slow as it was last year.
Café Moka
Jl Raya Seminyak
Fabulous place especially for morning or afternoon tea, supper and of course lunch. Great selection of cakes and French pastries plus little versions of them for 5,000rp each so that you can try them first (what are they called.... Mmm petit foirs or some such), they also have truffles (try
the white chocolate one - to die for). Baguettes are huge and have scrumptious fillings and there are heaps more things to choose from. Had the best coffee in Bali at this café.
Warung Italie
Jl Kunti - Seminyak
Heard great reports about this place and it always seemed busy but was not
As impressed as some have been. The pasta however was delicious, what we were concerned about was the food in the hot buffet section as although it seemed to be ‘warm', they then heated it through again in the
Microwave. Be careful also as not everything in the buffet is marked and we were caught out with some of the squid dishes, which amounted to 15,000rp a spoonful. Prices were good with main meals on the menu at 18,000 and delicious. Drink prices were also very reasonable.
Aroma's Cafe
Legian St
Well this will always be my favourite ‘rest whilst shopping' or ‘pick me up' kind of a place. Great vegetarian dishes, smoothies, heaps fresh juices to cure all kinds ailments and great salad sandwiches when you're so hanging out for one. They also have what I would class one of the best loos in Bali.
Legends
Jl Sahadewa
Garlic Lane
0361 755376
Reasonably priced meals and drinks with happy hour on cocktails and beer. I felt that the quality of their meals was deteriorating and I noticed there has been some major staff changes with many staff moving to the new premises down the road ‘Ours'. Wouldn't recommend eating here but the band with ‘Click' as the lead singer is excellent and a great night can be had there. We had our ‘girls night out' before my sisters wedding here and had a fabulous night.
Ours
Jl Sahadewa
Garlic Lane
Newly opened, have not eaten here myself but the food looked great and the place was packed. Drinks are reasonably priced and the night we were there the band from Legends was playing. Many of Legends staff now work here. The layout of the place isn't the best with it being upstairs and downstairs and more room upstairs but then you are away from the band. Downstairs can become somewhat crowded on a busy night.
Warung Yogya
Jl Padma Utara
Near Loji supermarket
Excellent cheap meals with the dearest being 16,000rp, quick friendly service and drinks at around 11,000 beer and 8,000 juices (fresh). Small warung where we make a point of always eating.
Billy's Bar and Restaurant
Jl Sahadewa
Garlic Lane
0361 763373
Had a drink here one night, friendly staff and Joey ex Uncle Norms is now there.
Black Canyon Café
Discovery Mall
Ground level, beach end.
Had great coffee here as well as a nice breakfast. Had dinner here one night and thought it was good value for money. Nice setting overlooking the beach and a great place to stop for coffee whilst shopping in the mall.
Tropical Café
Bali Dynasty Hotel
Went to the theme night 'Satay Night' and was not overly impressed with the food or the prices. Much better options in Bali.
Seaside
Next door to Kumala Pantai - beach side.
Good food and service. Interesting menu and a great setting. Meals were a similar price to the other restaurants nearby, but a different selection to some of the others.
Gado Gado
Seminyak (on the beach)
Excellent food. They have a new Chef who is French (one before was also excellent). Prices around 120,000 rp for a main and drinks pricey but the food is excellent. The fillet beef melted in your mouth. The setting is gorgeous and intimate. Ask for a beachfront table on the deck. Highly recommended for that special night.
