Yes it will work in Australia, i have bought my last two phones here in Jakarta. (over the last 5 or so years) They work fine with an Aussie SIM card ...however take note that the connection for the charger wont be the standard aussie prongs to go into the wall ... you can easily buy an adaptor at any electronics store in aussie :)
In January i just bought a NOKIA 6680 and it worked fine when i went home to oz for a couple of weeks .. :)
