Colleen,
I know you from this site and feel grateful for your tailor recommendation and Aristo - thanks. I spend around 6 weeks each year in Lombok and love the place. It is quieter, cheaper and more relaxed I find. A prepaid taxi to Senggigi central is 50,000rp or was in April last. Difficult to access local drivers there. The airport tax is 20,000 from a vague memory. Best to buy your tickets at the domestic terminal a day or so in advance I fly Wings or Lion (same company) Merpati a bit irratic.

Lombok taxis are great as are the local cidomos (horse and cart) lovely for pottering around in and very cheap. Yes there are hawker pressures, but life in Lombok is tough - not so many tourists - and it is important to remember the job of a tourist - to look, enjoy and to buy! Be sure to sit in a Senggigi warung and drink tea or coffee in the evening - lovely local folk, good chats and memorable times. Food is good - have dinner at Bumbu Cafe, Matahari Cafe (on the main drag and say hello from me . Visit Mataram Mall in a taxi - around 50,000 - have a wander and enjoy the unique ambience when school is out - the hardware/china shop on the second floor is a treat! Shopping Cakra and Ampenan also fun - get a taxi to take you there. Enjoy wonderful Lombok and the many fine people you will meet.
Hey on Sundays the Australian owners at Senggigi Reef Hotel have a barbie - its cheap and fun - around mid day. Safe travels.
