Hi Madge, as I understand it one cannot open a bank account unless he/she is a holder of KITAS VISA or maybe other type visas and/or business there. Maybe best to set-up an account in the name of Balinese friends with one of the bigger banks, I do believe CBA (Commonwealth) are in Denpasar, or some of the Indonesian banks are better(stronger) than others, I deal personally with "Manderi" ( a small branch just near you, opp Swastika2). Monies are easilly transferred from Sydney via Internet banking with most banks for a fee (ofcours!) around $20 a hit.
Only need BANK NAME,SWIFT CODE, ACCOUNT NAME, ACCOUNT NUMBER amount to be transferred, once all this info is in your Bank page onthe PC can be saved and you simply fill in the amount, normally arrives within 36 hours. Hope this helps and what a great deed from your family.
Cheers and ENJOY!
