Two backpaks full is alittle pushing the legal boundries, you were lucky!!!
If there is a few of you travelling together - spread the beads around between you, stash them all over your luggage so its not obvious what you are doing.
Recent trip back, and a lady was doing just that, unpacking her bag and declaring her 'samples' and paying the duty.
Duty on jewellery is 5%, then the GST is added.
If you intend on bring HEAPS back, get an invoice (at a reduced price) from the supplier just to be on the safe side.
Good luck - the chances of being caught out is slim, but remember if they do catch you YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW.
I have a shop and always bring back abit of stock in my baggage other than whats being shipped over, i just try to make it look like its not overkill!!!
