drop off luggage into hotel room then go for a walk. Get a feel for the place. Our flight usually gets us in to Bali early afternoon. We often wander down to Susie and Sammies for a drink and watch the sunset then off to dinner and back to hotel for early night.
As a first timer, try not to buy on first day as you need to get a feel for the bargaining process and prices, just all those thousands of rupiah takes a bit to get used to. Say hello to everyone who says hello to you and enjoy the wonderful warmth of the locals. (Dont tell them its your first trip and first day in Bali tho, as this has a tendency to bring out the 'rip off' side to the sellers.)
