This is probably a Balinese old wives tale, but I know some long-time Bali residents who swear by papaya seeds - swallow 6 whole & the agony eases. Never tried it tho because since '83 I have had only one dose of food poisoning from eating at a buffet at a very upmarket hotel. Avoid buffets.

It's a good idea to eat at restaurants where there are other diners. The more crowded, the better for food freshness. Also, don't order seafood if the weather has been bad and the fishermen haven't been out fishing. Try to eat freshly cooked food. Wash & dry your hands thoroughly before eating. Basically, use common sense & selamat makaan.
