You are wrong. The Grand Mirage is a very friendly hotel and it has plenty of good cheap restaurants at its doorstep, cabs going past all the time to take you into Kuta, Tuban or where ever not like the Nusa Dua hotels where you are vitually in a compound. There is only a small amount of shopping at Tanjung Benoa but it is only 25 mins into town for the bulk of your shopping. All the beach ladies are locals and you see them going to and fro from their homes. Tanjung Benoa is a great area and you see the locals out fishing very early in the mornings while the tide is low. Thats if you are a early riser.
