Our flights to the Cook Islands has been re- scheduled forcing us to go a day earlier and come home a day later. This also leaves us in Auckland on a 16 hour layover going and a 12 hour one coming home. Air New Zealand eventually offered us hotel accommodation but no food. First Air NZ said go to the service desk for your vouchers in MEL airport and if there not there go the the service desk in Auckland... I don't think so. Could you imagine their faces when we asked for free hotel room with no support documentation. They emailed me with confirmation.
Just to rub salt into the wound we have had to cancel our original travel insurance as it didn't cover the extended days and take out a longer dearer policy. I thought the original policy would have covered the delays etc but apparently not as we knew about the changes before we left Australia and therefor doesn't come under 'unforeseen circumstances'.
And and and Our wonderful planned 4 days on the fabulous island of Aitutaki has been spoilt (as far as I'm concerned) because the TV show Survivor will be filming Survivor 13 there. Imagine 300+ crew all working and scrambling for the same few restaurants on the island. It'll change the vibe of a tropical island experience. We won't be allowed to visit the famous motu 'One Foot' or other motus as the lagoon will be closed and out of bounds to tourist from June 5th till August when do we arrive? June 7th. One honeymoon couple has already been booted off the only accommodation on 'One Foot'. There's even talk of restricting airspace so the prop planes cannot seen on the footage... Ah! money always did talk.
*I'm just getting my head around it* The only thing that will console me is if I get to throw the leg over Jeff ;-)
Cheers Gerry
