An evarage income of 15,000 Rupiah per day sounds low for many foreigners. However, most Indonesians in Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Molukku and other islands would love to earn it but have no chance to find a job.
And the problem is getting worse: because of minimum salary increases and the appreciating Rupiah, Indonesian exports are getting less competitive. As a result, an increasing number of factories are closing down - it's just cheaper to buy from other countries such as Vietnam, China etc.
