Get the Lonely Planet and/or Rough Guide Guide Books - both have a good section on commonly used words & phrases, as well as great info on Bali. Also, Lonely Planet does a small (as in physically small) book that is chockers with very useful language things - eg there are sections for at a restaurant, bargaining, taxis etc etc. The Balinese very much like chatting with you while you look up words & phrases and they are usually thrilled that you are making the effort to speak with them in their language. I think singla pipis is actually Balinese (sp?).
