I have never had trouble.

Don't go chase a rate that seems better than the rest, this is just asking for trouble, get a feel for the range and go for the average. I never gave my money first, just showed them to confirm. The changer always worked slowly, carefully placing one note on top of the other giving plenty of time to check, NEVER touched the notes again, allowed quiet time for me to check again. Nothing was ever rushed, double handed or confused. This was both in a Kodak shop and a small operator in an out of the way shop in a Legian market.

If you get anything less than this just walk out, no squables, no anger, no trouble, just turn your back and go!!

But then again, ATMs really are the safest and most efficient way to get funds.
